The Rights of Prisoners Essay Example for Free
The Rights of Prisoners Essay An individual indicted to invest energy in prison has become some portion of the authorizations given in the general public so as to make and keep up harmony and request. Individuals who are exposed to be detained are called detainees and are dealt with uniquely in contrast to the remainder of the general public. There are a few purposes behind doing as such and the essential of which is the need to isolate the individuals who tend to act against the others. Nonetheless, it remains that the detainees are, and ought to be, given a few rights regardless of their condition and state since this is inalienable and is joined to them any place they go. In the first place, the detainees remain their citizenship and keeping in mind that they are given a discipline as per the Constitution, these people are additionally stretched out the privilege to the insurances that are incorporated inside the equivalent. In article 10 of the International Covenant on Civil Rights and Political Rights, it is expressed that ââ¬Å"All people denied of their freedom will be treated with mankind and with deference for the innate respect of the human personâ⬠(Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights). While it is acknowledged that detainees must be put in prison and lose their freedom, the feeling of mankind and pride that is intrinsically with them as an individual isn't lost. They merit the sort of treatment that they have as people and this incorporates their privileges as individuals. Similarly, the conferment of rights on detainees is viewed as a functioning reaction to the conditions and the earth which they live in (Swaaningen 139). Second, it is seen that ââ¬Å"jail ought be about discipline, yet about retraining and restoring prisonersâ⬠(BBC News). Detainees should even now be given their key rights with the end goal for them to increase self-improvement that prompts their recovery and retraining. They must be given the key rights they gained as an individual with the goal for them to likewise be capable and mandatory for the moves they make. This is a stage that is required with the end goal for them to step into recovery and retraining for their selves. Be that as it may, this is constrained dependent on the requirements and states of the detainment facilities where they are set (Bergman-Barrett 545). Third, even the Supreme Court, the most elevated body in the legal branch, perceives the privileges of the detainees. This is obvious in the decision that they made because of the contentions made by the Bush Administration that ââ¬Å"enemy soldiers don't reserve a privilege to habeas corpusâ⬠(Los Angeles Times). The SC is firm in their choice that the detainees are given the rights that they have paying little mind to the wrongdoings submitted. Being a significant body in the legal executive, the voice of the SC is given a lot of weight in talking about whether the prisonersââ¬â¢ rights are perceived or not. Then again, there are contentions made against the arrangement of rights for the detainees. The reason for which originates from the wrongdoing that the detainees have submitted and the requirement for them endure discipline (Johns). Be that as it may, this basically makes one wonder and doesn't look to determine the requirement for transforming the detainees. In like manner, it neglects to see the humanistic side of the issue and is additionally obvious of the deficiency of understanding the idea of human rights to be all inclusive.

As we continue further into the 21st century, multiculturalism turns out to be progressively applicable to getting a genuinely worldwide society. Dr. James A. Banks characterizes the importance of multicultural training and its latent capacity sway on society when it is really coordinated into American study halls. In his talk, Democracy, Diversity and Social Justice: Education in a Global Age, Banks (2006) characterizes the five elements of multicultural instruction that fill in as a manual for school change when attempting to actualize multicultural training (Banks 2010). The objective of multicultural instruction is to urge understudies to esteem their own societies and the different societies of everyone around them without politicizing their disparities yet rather, as Banks enthusiastically clarifies in his talk, ââ¬Å"to complete the beliefs expressed in the Constitutionâ⬠(2006) shaping ââ¬Å"civil, moral, and just communities.â⬠The first of the five components of multicultural instruction is content coordination. Instructors can recognize praiseworthy individuals and data from assorted societies and coordinate it in a nontrivial into the educational program so understudies can get familiar with the impacts of all societies on the substance they are contemplating. Dr. Banks (2010) clarifies the inactive educational plan being ââ¬Å"defined as the one that no instructor expressly instructs however that all understudies learn.â⬠These are the exercises that understudies recollect long after they have left the educational system. 10 Fascinating Facts About Grasshoppers
Famed fable writer Aesop portrayed the grasshopper as a neer do well who fiddled away his summer days without a thought to the future but in the real world, the destruction wreaked by grasshoppers on farming and ranching is far from a harmless parable. Although grasshoppers are extremely common, theres more to these summertime critters than meets the eye. Heres a list of 10 fascinating grasshopper-related facts. 1. Grasshoppers and Locusts Are One and the Same When we think of grasshoppers, most people recall pleasant childhood memories of trying to catch the jumping insects in meadows or backyards. Say the word locusts, however, and it brings to mind images of historic plagues raining down destruction on crops and devouring every plant in sight. Truth be told, grasshoppers and locusts are members of the same insect order. While certain species are commonly referred to grasshoppers and others as locusts, both creatures are short-horned members of the order Orthoptera. Jumping herbivores with shorter antennae are grouped into the suborder Caelifera, while their longer-horned brethren (crickets and katydids) belong to the suborder Ensifera. 2. Grasshoppers Have Ears on Their Bellies The grasshoppers auditory organs are found not on the head, but rather, on the abdomen. A pair of membranes that vibrate in response to sound waves are located one on either side of the first abdominal segment, tucked under the wings. This simple eardrum, called a tympanal organ, allows the grasshopper to hear the songs of its fellow grasshoppers. 3. Although Grasshoppers Can Hear, They Cant Distinguish Pitchà Very Well As with most insects, the grasshoppers auditory organs are simple structures. They can detect differences in intensity and rhythm, but not pitch. The male grasshoppers song isnt particularly melodic which is a good thing since females dont care whether or not a fellow can carry a tune. Each species of grasshopper produces a characteristic rhythm that distinguishes its song from others and enables courting males and females of a given species to find one another. 4. Grasshoppers Make Music by Stridulating or Crepitating If youre not familiar with those terms, dont worry. Its not all that complicated. Most grasshoppers stridulate, which simply means that they rub their hind legs against their forewings to produce their trademark tunes. Special pegs on the inside of the hind leg act like a percussion instrument of sorts when they come in contact with the thickened edge of the wing. The band-winged grasshoppers crepitate or loudly snap their wings as they fly. 5. Grasshoppers Catapult Themselves Into the Air If youve ever tried to catch a grasshopper, you know how far they can jump to flee danger. If humans could jump the way grasshoppers do, we would be able to easily leap the length of a football field. How do these insects jump so far? Its all in those big, back legs. A grasshoppers hind legs function like miniature catapults. In preparation for a jump, the grasshopper contracts its large flexor muscles slowly, bending its hind legs at the knee joint. A special piece of cuticle within the knee acts as a spring, storing up all the potential energy. The grasshopper then relaxes its leg muscles, allowing the spring to release its energy and fling the insect into the air. 6. Grasshoppers Can Fly Because grasshoppers have such powerful jumping legs, people sometimes dont realize that they also have wings. Grasshoppers use their jumping ability to give them a boost into the air but most are pretty strong fliers and make good use of their wings to escape predators. 7. Grasshoppers Cause Billions of Dollars in Damage to Food Crops Annually One lone grasshopper cant do too much harm, although it eats about half its body weight in plants each dayââ¬âbut when locusts swarm, their combined feeding habits can completely defoliate a landscape, leaving farmers without crops and people without food. In the U.S. alone, grasshoppers cause about $1.5 billion in damage to grazing lands each year. In 1954, a swarm of Desert locusts (Schistocerca gregaria) consumed over 75 square miles of wild and cultivated plants in Kenya. 8. Grasshoppers Are an Important Source of Protein People have been consuming locusts and grasshoppers for centuries. According to the Bible, John the Baptist ate locusts and honey in the wilderness. Locusts and grasshoppers are a regular dietary component in local diets in many areas of Africa, Asia, and the Americasââ¬âand since theyre packed with protein, theyre an important nutritional staple as well. 9. Grasshoppers Existed Long Before Dinosaurs Modern-day grasshoppers descend from ancient ancestors that lived long before dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The fossil record shows that primitive grasshoppers first appeared during the Carboniferous period, more than 300 million years ago. Most ancient grasshoppers are preserved as fossils, although grasshopper nymphs (the second stage in the grasshopper lifestyle after the initial egg phase) are occasionally found in amber. 10. Grasshoppersà May Spit Liquid to Defend Themselves If youve ever handled grasshoppers, youve probably had a few of them spit brown liquid on you in protest. Scientists believe this behavior is a means of self-defense, and the liquid helps the insects repel predators. Some people say grasshoppers spit tobacco juice, probably because historically, grasshoppers have been associated with tobacco crops. Rest assured, however, the grasshoppers arent using you as a spittoon.

Locality Planning â⬠The Key Elements Free Essays
A locality plan is a fundamental and dynamic management tool which will state a list of targets to be met within a given locality. It will be based on local needs analysis and will be used to prioritise resource allocation whilst at the same time encouraging involvement and enhancing accountability. There are many factors which will determine how such a plan might develop, some of which are the consultation processes, inter-agency and inter-service co-operation, availability of resources, service quality, monitoring and feedback procedures as well as meeting the corporate aims, values and policies of Fife Council. We will write a custom essay sample on Locality Planning ââ¬â The Key Elements or any similar topic only for you Order Now Consultation will need to be participative and all who may be affected by the plan would need to be actively encouraged to participate. This would involve amongst others, local community groups, elected members, voluntary organisations, residents, businesses, council services and officials. This consultation ââ¬Ëphaseâ⬠would have to examine what other plans, initiatives, programmes and policies may be in place and any resultant impact on existing service provision and resources. Inter-agency and intra-agency co-operation is essential if information is to be collated and processed in any meaningful fashion and to ensure that any plan once in place will be properly supported. Barriers to co-operation need to be removed through consultation, participation, negotiation, and improved communication channels. Resource provision has to be assessed along with any plan. Existing resources, whether personnel, equipment or financial can only cater for so many needs. The targeting of these resources would need to be negotiated and agreed by all parties involved as part of the process of encouraging ownership of and participation in a locality plan. To provide a plan which meets local needs and has the necessary resources is pointless if the quality of implementation does not meet the expectations of the community. Recognition therefore of the service delivery processes are vital. Personnel need to be properly trained, highly motivated and committed to the aims of the plan. Equipment needs to be suitable for its intended purpose and utilised as effectively as possible. Monitoring and feedback are an essential part of the process if the locality plan is to remain dynamic. Monitoring allows the progress of the plan to be measured and any fine tuning can be implemented where needed. Monitoring assesses and measures the success of any plan whilst feedback allows information to be fed to, and received from, those involved at all stages of the plan from strategic policy development, to the officers implementing the plan, to the people, groups and communities receiving the benefits. The aims, policies and corporate values of Fife Council should underpin any plan. Plans should encourage openness and accountability, improve participation and involvement, provide quality and equality, promote devolved decision making and enhance learning and development. Nowadays, Computers Can Translate All Kinds of Languages free essay sample
Title: Nowadays, computers can translate all kinds of languages. Should people learn languages other than their mother tongue? Language, as a basic skill which draws a distinguishing line between human and other animal, is considered to be one of the most invaluable cultural creations. There are some people who can speak three or four languages fluently, while others struggle with their second. However, language learning might seem to be less necessary due to the development of science and technology.Hence, the debates on the necessity of learning foreign languages never stops. In my opinion, I strongly rally behind the idea of studying languages other than ones mother tongue. Some reckon that spending time on language learning is not essential as we can translate easily with a click of the mouse. For instance, Google translation enable us to obtain a paragraph of translation in a fraction of second; Electronic dictionaries are so light and cheap that we can carry it everywhere. We will write a custom essay sample on Nowadays, Computers Can Translate All Kinds of Languages or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page With the convenience that the cutting-edged technology has brought us, it is alleged that spending time and trouble learning other language is completely a waste of time. However, I do not concede that it is a waste of time. Although studying another language can be a time-consuming project, it should be valued as a vital ability. To start off, language learning is an unavoidable path to an exotic culture. For instance, reading the original version of Dream of the Red Chamber and the English translation is a world of difference. The former is full of rhythmic and gorgeous poems while the latter is dull and mundane. Therefore, language learning helps you to merge into the culture. To a great extent, language effects human mindsets. This might explain why Chinese favour bureaucracy while American like it blunt. The way that things appear in their head when they think is greatly influenced by the syntax of the different languages. In Chinese language, the methods of accomplishing something are nearly always put forward before the results, whereas American and British people prefer to announce the result before how they did it.Hence, it is actually possible to cultivate ones personality by learning foreign languages. It changes the order of ideas crossing ones mind, therefore, the individual priorities will change gradually without being noticed. Giving up learning another language is almost equivalent to refusing the chance of fostering foreign friendship. The reason why i found the opponents opinion narrow-minded and absurd is that they assume that machine translation is able to replace language study efficiently.Even Google translation is full of flaws and grammatical mistakes. Therefore, the only way enables people to communicate is speaking a language that both of them know. It is hard to imagine how people communicate with merely electronic translators. Moreover, a lot of well-known cross-broder love stories cannot exist without language learning. From John Lennon and Yoko Ono to Mark Zuckerburg and his wife of Chinese descent, it is obvious that these relationships would not even have got to started if no conversation is made. Moreover, one can never live in a foreign country without knowing anything about its language. Apart from shopping and socialising, it is life-threatening if you speed up towards school just because you thought school zone asHighway! Thus, to conclude, language learning is not only important for globalisation, but also for all aspect of life. We can only stop learning language when the magic pill which can translate languages instantaneously and accurately, is invented. Still, it will be a great loss of humanity.

What Should I Give to a Teacher Writing My Recommendation Letter
What Should I Give to a Teacher Writing My Recommendation Letter SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips A substantial bribe. Just kidding. You should give your teacher recommenders something much more valuablefor writingeffective letters ofrecommendation: your input. Sharing your ideas will assistyour teacher in writingyou an insightful and specific letter. This guide will discuss what materials you shouldproduce, and why your "recommender's packet" can go a long way toward making your final letter outstanding. To start, letââ¬â¢s review why recommendations are important to your application. If you understand what admissions officers look for, then you can make sure that your materials are useful and relevant. With this in mind, let's consider what purpose rec letters serve in the admission process. Why Do Colleges Require Recommendation Letters? Many four-year colleges require one or two recommendation letters from your teachers and school counselor. The main reason for this requirement is to get to know you better. Colleges arenââ¬â¢t just looking at your grades and SAT scores. Theyââ¬â¢re seeking to learn about you in a holistic sense - how you interact with your teachers and peers, how you approach the learning process, and what motivates and excites you, to give a few examples. Teachers can speak to both your intellectual and personal qualities, as well as to the role you play in the classroom on a day to day basis. Simply having an enthusiastic recommendation shows that you made a positive impression and maintained a good relationship with your teachers. If you made a splash at high school, youââ¬â¢re likely to work well with your peers and professors at college and contribute on campus too. Because of all the information and support they can communicate, recommendation letters play a very important role in the college application review process. Given their weight in the admissions decision, what makes some letters stand out while others blend into the background? What Goes Into a Good Letter of Recommendation? As I mentioned above, you should share your ideas and information with your teacher recommenders, who can refer to your packet when they sit down to write your letter. However, you want to make sure your materials are useful. Without knowing what makes some letters good and others bad, youââ¬â¢d have a hard time knowing what kind of info to share. So, in a nutshell, a good letter of rec is insightful, personal, and enthusiastic. While your teacher should talk about your intellectual abilities and attitude towards learning, she should also speak to personal qualities, like empathy, creativity, or leadership skills. Just as importantly, she should be specific and demonstrative. By this, I mean that she should describe particular instances where you demonstrated your strengths. In a sense, her anecdotes can prove that her descriptions ofyou areaccurate. On the flip side, a bad letter may sound lukewarm and generic. It may sidestep talking about your personal qualities and instead only list data, like grades and test scores. An ineffective letter would also be unspecific and lack examples, making it effectively impersonal, even vague. Based on theseelements of a good letter, you can put together a ââ¬Å"recommenderââ¬â¢s packetâ⬠that will be useful to your letter writers. You can provide the type of information - your academic interests and goals, your personal strengths and values, and memorable anecdotes from class - that your teacher can incorporate to make her letter stand out. Generally, this recommenders' packet will beprovided for you by your guidance office. If itââ¬â¢s not for some reason, you would still be well served to put it together yourself. Read on to learn more about what kind of info should go into this packet! What Information Should You Provide for Your Recommenders? Once you ask you teacher for a letter and she agrees, you should share the following materials: Practical information, like to what schools she should send her rec letter, how to submit, and your deadlines. What you plan to study at college (if you know). What strengths, passions, of qualities you would like her to highlight in her letter. Special projects or memories from class that were significant to you. Your resume. Your brag sheet (this document is especially important, which Iââ¬â¢ll describe in more detail below). The first few points on this list shouldnââ¬â¢t take too long to record, but other components, like your resume and brag sheet, may require 15or more hours of work. Letââ¬â¢s break down each component in more detail so you know what it is, why itââ¬â¢s important, and how you can prepare. Share the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities... Practical Information - Where, What, and When Perhaps it goes without saying that you have to give your recommenders the bare necessities: a list of colleges to which she should send her letter, instructions on how to submit, and, of course, your deadlines. Some teachers may uploadtheir letters to your school'sonline application, others to the Common Application, and still others to the e-docs software, Naviance. Let your teacher know what method she'll be using. What You Need to Do Ideally, you have your list of colleges and deadlines on hand when you make your request. If youââ¬â¢re asking especially early - maybe youââ¬â¢re asking your beloved 10th grade English teacher at the end of the year - then you can follow up with this information later. Remember that your teacher may have many letters to write, along with everything else sheââ¬â¢s up to - so write everything down. That way she can refer to this information when she sits down to write your letter. Share all your deadlines, and send a reminder about a week before if you see that she hasnââ¬â¢t submitted her letteryet. Once she does submit, make sure to send a thank you note for her help in getting into college. Want to build the best possible college application? We can help. Depending on your comfort level and relationship with your teacher, you wouldnââ¬â¢t be crossing a line if you explicitly stated what skills, qualities, or goals youââ¬â¢d like her to highlight in your letter. As mentioned above, the most effective recommendation letters speak to your intellectual and personal qualities. By sharing your ideas, you could ensure that your teacher includes your academic and personal strengths. What You Need to Do Iââ¬â¢m not suggesting that you tell your recommender how to write her letter. You could keep what you say short and sweet, something like, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢d really love if you could include my skill / interest / talent in (fill in the blank here).â⬠Make sure that the skill, interest, or talent you mention is appropriate for a rec letter. Apassion for a subject, insightful comments in class, ora willingness to take on special projects would be worth mentioning.Your daredevil balancing stunts in tall places may be less relevant. This small amount of input could actually help provide your teacher with a theme around which to focus her letter. Let your teacher know what you learned from her class. What You Learned and Accomplished In Class Similarly, you might remind your teacher about a memorable project you worked on or lesson that was especially meaningful from class. If you had any notable achievements or important moments, you could describe them to your teacher. Since the best rec letters use specific examples, your input could be a useful reminder. Maybe you worked on a special research project or excelled in a debate. Perhaps reading A Brave New World changed your perspective on life. Maybe your teacherââ¬â¢s class helpedyou discover you want to be a World History major. Whatever you took away from her class, it could be useful to share. Your input could help make her letter even more specific. If nothing else, your teacher will appreciate hearing that her class made an impact on your thinking. What You Need to Do Before requesting your recommendation, list out your reasons for asking this teacher. Think about any stand out projects or instances where you went beyond requirements. Consider times that you contributed to a discussion, or perhaps had a thought-provoking conversation you had with your teacher. Write these moments down, and share them with your teacher when you make your request. As with above, you don't want to come off like you're writing the letter for your teacher. You could say something short and to the point, like, ââ¬Å"I learned a ton from your class and was hoping you could provide me with a recommendation for college. One of my favorite projects wasâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Since teacher recommendation letters provide a micro-view of you as a student - they got to know you on a day to day basis - they should include specifics from your class performance. Your teacher should have examples in mind, but it shouldnââ¬â¢t hurt for you to share your own memories too! Your Resume All students should include a resume in their recommenderââ¬â¢s packet. Your teacher will mainly write about you in the context she knew you - as a student in her class. However, itââ¬â¢s also helpful for her to know what otherresponsibilities you balanced and what other activities youââ¬â¢re interested in, especially if theyconnect to her subject. For instance, maybe your Physics teacher will see that you pursued your passion for mechanical engineering for three years inRobotics Club. As described above, your teacher shouldnââ¬â¢t repeat your whole resume and fill your letter with data. However, it is useful for them to have context and learn more about what youââ¬â¢ve been up to in high school. Your resume, therefore, is an essential document to give your recommenders to help them write your letter. What You Need to Do People style their resumes based on personal taste, but the best ones include certain key elements: a summary ofskills, a list of activities and work experiences with brief descriptions, and any awards or achievements. You want to include your dates of involvement, and you may state an objective at the top. You should check out some samples and choose the format that works best for your experiences. Apart from providing a resume, you should be prepared to talk about what you learned from your experiences, especially as any relate to your teacherââ¬â¢s class or your academic goals for college. Even if your teacher doesnââ¬â¢t sit down to speak with you about it, you may provide these reflections in written form in your brag sheet. That way you can communicate not just what you did in high school, but what each experience meant to you. Your Brag Sheet Finally, we get to thebrag sheet, perhaps the most significant part of your packet. Your guidance department should provide you with this document, and its questions may vary from school to school. Whatever version you use, it should include prompts that ask you to think about your experiences, identity, and goals. Rather than giving quick, cliche answers, you should try to dig deep. Even if it feels vulnerable, being honest and revealing is the best way to communicate something real, important, and authentic. Ideally, your recommender already knows you well, but your brag sheet should help her get to know you even better. Some prompts may include: Describe your family. How have your parents influenced you? What qualities of theirs do you admire? What three adjectives would you use to describe yourself? What adjectives would your teachers use? Your parents? Give specific examples or stories of a time you exemplified each one of these qualities. Discuss an academic interest or passion. Describe an involvement thatââ¬â¢s had a significant impact on you. How do you spend your free time? What have you learned about yourself since the time you started high school? How have you changed or grown? Describe a significant challenge or obstacle youââ¬â¢ve had to overcome. How did you do so, and what did you learn from it? Describe an experience that changed your thinking or perspective on an issue. Depending on your school, your brag sheet may be more or less thorough (or may not exist at all). If you feel you have more to share, you could add your own questions and answers. Besides adding more info, what else can you do to make your brag sheet as useful and telling as it can be? What You Need to Do As you can see, the questions on a brag sheet are quite personal. Theyââ¬â¢re tough to answer immediately. Instead, they call for some serious introspection and self-awareness. Donââ¬â¢t worry if your first reaction is to go blank. It takes some time to reflect on these questions and come up with answers that feel genuine and meaningful. One way to dig deeper might be to sit with a question and jot down any ideas that come to mind. For instance, letââ¬â¢s say youââ¬â¢re trying to describe an involvement thatââ¬â¢s important to you. You might write down your participation in track team. Then you should ask yourself a simple question: why? Maybe track team has enhanced your confidence. Again, ask yourself, Why? Maybe youââ¬â¢re continuously breaking your personal records and showing yourself that you can redefine your sense of limitations. You can keep asking yourself "why" to get to something that resonates with you - maybe your achievements in running have spread into other areas in your life by showing that if you endure discomfort in the moment, you can break through to a new level that you didnââ¬â¢t know waspossible. Then again, another studentmight value track team because of the friendships she made there. Maybe she felt a strong sense of belonging with hertrack team, and this connectedness showed her that she can adapt to any new social situation. If you keep asking yourself why and defining your reasons, then your answer may look very different - and much more revealing - than where you started. Two students may write about their involvement in track, but they may value the experience for very different reasons. And this says something different about who they are and what's important to them. Your brag sheet willhelp your teacher write an insightful letter that reveals your character, personality, and values. They may also include significant circumstances in your family or personal background, if you're comfortable sharing them. All of this insightwill help admissions officers get to know you on a deeper level. Your letters should give admissions committees a fullersense of who you are as a student and person. By giving this same well-rounded sense to your teachers, youwill give themall the materials they need - along with the relationship theyââ¬â¢ve already established with you - to write a personal and effective letter of recommendation. Key Points: What to Prepare and Why The most important takeaway you shouldgain from this guide is that you can play an active and influential role in getting strong recommendation letters. Of course, the foundation of your letters is how you performed in class over the year and got to know your teachers. Beyond this, though, you can prepare thoughtful information that will help your teacher write a specific, personalized, and revealing letter. Thinking about and producing your materials should take a few weeks of planning. You should expect to spend about 15 hours or more on creating and proofreading your resume and brag sheet. You shouldnââ¬â¢t scribble off fast answers to your brag sheet prompts; instead, take the time to sit with these questions and dig deeply, continually challenging yourself to get to the root of your answers by asking, ââ¬Å"Why?â⬠as in the example above. Your responses will not only jog your teacherââ¬â¢s memory and teach her new things about you, but they will also show her how much effort and planning youââ¬â¢re putting into your college applications. Hopefully, youââ¬â¢ve asked a teacher who supports you and knows you well. By putting in the effort to share your ideas, resume, and brag sheet, you can be confident youââ¬â¢ve done everything in your power to acquire an excellent letter of recommendation. What's Next? Aspects of Contract and Negligence for Business Essay - 1
Aspects of Contract and Negligence for Business - Essay Example All contracts must involve (a) at least two parties, (b) parties who have the legal capacity, (c) a manifestation of all the parties in the contract, (d) finally, a consideration that supports legal and enforceable promise. Having the legal capacity means that the individuals are adults and have mental competence. The law is relatively settled if the competent adults are bound by the terms of the contract. Considering the case of Wohoo and Provident Solutions (PS), it involves corporate organizations. A company has the capacity to enter into contractual relations , but such type of relations are only binding on the companies if those acting on behalf of the company do so with express or implied authority of the company, something which was fulfilled by both Wahoo, PS and Clive Software Limited. The essential elements of a contract include: offer and acceptance, free consent, contractual capacity, intentions to create legal relations, illegal and void agreements, and lastly considerat ions. Considering the case of Wohoo Wholesale and Provident Solutions, when PS sub-contracted Clive software on the recommendation of Wohoo to provide software systems, they did so because previously they provided software of very high standard. But since the software installed by Clive brought numerous problems to the organization, Wohoo refused to pay PS for 40 computers in the process with holding 58 computers and five servers as it claims for compensation of the losses incurred by the faulty software installed. This clearly shows that all the essential elements of a contract are not in place. In this context, there is no consideration as there is no price paid for the promise of the other party. Since consideration does not exist, the court is likely to question its adequacy. The court is to intervene because one of the parties, Wohoo has exhibited duress or unconscionable conduct. Typically, courts will not weigh the adequacy of the consideration as long as the consideration is established to be sufficient, with sufficiency being defined as the meeting test of the law; adequacy is the subjective fairness or equivalence. The contract between Wahoo and PS is questionable although the problems emanated from Clive Software (Chen-Wishart, 2007: 212). The manifestation of assent by all the parties that are in agreement signifies acceptance in some way. Therefore, both Wahoo and PS were aware of the status of Cliveââ¬â¢s products by accepting it as a sub-contractor. Since the objective standard was met, it means that there is proof that the assent was met. By Wahoo with holding 58 computers and 5 severs narrows down to the elements of an assent. This is because the parties need to come to some meeting of the minds about the terms of the contract. Since the three parties entered into a contract and one or two elements failed to be fulfilled the contract is considered to be null and void. This is because of the unconscionable conduct and misleading conduct of b oth Wahoo and Clive Software affects the enforceability of the contract. To the effect that the contract is considered as void, the parties should be put back to their original positions (Walston-Dunham, 2008: 420-423). Task 1: Question 2 Every business should be aware of standard form of contracts. These are agreements that make use of standardized, the non-negotiated provisions that are usually in the preprinted forms. They are also known as

Cases of Violence in Sports and How They Should Be Handled :: Art
Cases of Violence in Sports and How They Should Be Handled Violence in sports will always be a big issue although I don't think it will ever be truly resolved. In sports there is competition and where there is competition people are striving to be the best. There is a lot of strong emotion when people are trying to win for themselves or for their team. In sports as long as there is competition and high emotion, there will always be the potential for violence. The intense competition that is a part of sports can and often does lead to violence. The violence isn't always among the players of the sports being played. At a nine-year old soccer game in Staten Island parents of opposing teams became engaged in a verbal fight over a call that a referee made and it became a big brawl between parents. This shows the kids at that game that if their parents can engage in a fight with the opposing teams parents then that makes it right to throw an elbow in a game or shove someone. Yet in professional sports it isn't the athletes most of the time. Usually the fans are the ones to cause the riots and fights. Especially in the sport of soccer, the fans take the sport so serious and they aren't even playing in the game. Unhappy Corinthian fans said that the players were slacking off and so the fans gave the team a piece of their own mind by invading the field, cursing at the players and punching their own team. Corinthian fans have been known to turn against there own team in unfavorable times. These are obviously not true fans. A few years ago Latrell Spreewell was in an incident where he choked his coach. This brought major conflict to the NBA; they did not know what to do with Latrell. At the time he was on the Golden State Warriors, they needed to make the playoffs and to do this they needed Latrell. But to let him physically and orally assault his own coach and to get away with it, who knows what type of controversy this could bring to the basketball world. They had to do something with Latrell but what? If they suspended him, the team would have no chance of getting to the playoffs and, without the possibility of winning the basketball championship, which would mean a dramatic decrease of income on the behalf of the Warriors.

Internal analysis of Ryanair Essay
1. Internal audit of tangible, financial and intangible resources Tangible Resources 1. Human Resources * Ryanair currently employs 2000 people (2003) from 25 nations. * The pay is performance related and among the highest in the airline industry (Annual Report 2004, p. 5). Travel concessions and participation in the share option program is granted to all employees. In 2003 over 30% (639 in total) of employees took part in the stock option program ââ¬â the average pay per employee was about 53.000 (Annual Report 2004, p. 21). * CEO Michael Oââ¬â¢Leary has significantly shaped Ryanair. 2. Physical resources * Ryanair operates 72 aircrafts (Annual Report 2004, p. 3). All aircrafts are of a single type. Ryanair has ordered 225 brand new Boeing 737-800 aircrafts. The average aircraft age was about 10 years vs. easy Jetââ¬â¢s was 5.1 years (2003). However with the deliver of the new aircrafts, Ryanairââ¬â¢s figure will enhance. The average age of the fleet is important, as maintenance costs depends on this. * Facilities: Dublin Airport facilities, but no major other ones. Financial Resources * Ryanair will stay mostly unhedged in 2005 (Annual Report 2004, p. 12). * With a quick ratio of 2.7 Ryanair has enough cash even if all liabilitiesà have to be paid at once (Brealey et al., 2001). Ryanair has also shown good profitability. * Ryanair is listed on a stock exchange, obtaining capital in form of equity capital. In total, Ryanair has 1.5 billion in shareholder funds (Annual Report 2004, p. 12). The stock was very attractive to investors, outperforming its benchmark index. Intangible Resources * Ryanair has access to medium sized airports which provide cheap slot licences. The average airport charge applied to Ryanair was less than 7 . * Ryanair has an option to get 200 additional brand new Boeing 737-800 from Boeing. * Internet as major distribution platform with very huge attraction Ryanairââ¬â¢s most important assets are aircrafts and access to secondary airports. But this alone doesnââ¬â¢t make this airline successful: the real assets are the employees and particularly the CEO Michael Oââ¬â¢Leary. Ryanair has a solid financial statement and a good profit track which is currently negatively influenced by the ongoing price war. 2 Threshold and core competences and resources 1) Threshold Resources * Availability of aircrafts and access to (low cost) airports * Internet as sales and marketing device 2) Threshold Competences: * If a sudden oil price shock occurs or the exchange rate developsà unfavourable this may have negative effects on net income. The ability to hedge exchange rate risks and oil prices is therefore a core threshold competence. * Customers expect to get cheap ticket prices, punctuality and highest safety standards from Ryanair. Ryanair must therefore be able to provide customers with lower fares than their competitors. * The ability to generate income from ancillary services (in order to subsidise the lowest ticket prices). Threshold capabilities of Ryanair are: the ability to keep flying from A to B on a low cost basis and sustaining competitive ticket prices. Core capabilities/competences: Efficient low cost base Ryanair always searches for possibilities to cut costs. Low operating costs within the complete value chain, subcontracting and economics of scale (performance related pay, efficient aircrafts, use of secondary airports, internet as marketing and sales deviceâ⬠¦) make it possible to provide the cheapest ticket prices available. Sound financial statement Very sound financial statement (e.g. liquidity ratio, shareholder fundsâ⬠¦). Leadership style of Michel Oââ¬â¢Leary CEO Michael Oââ¬â¢Leary (Effective, charismatic leadership) and Ryanairââ¬â¢s management. The management of Ryanair received several awards and Michael Oââ¬â¢Leary was named one of ââ¬Å"25 European business starts by the Financial Timesâ⬠. High market power Ryanair has a high market share, and the possibility to act as a price leader (sound financial figures making it possible to initiate and sustain a price war) Employment policy Effective employment handling: Every 7th employee (191 in total) was promoted internally (Annual Report 2004, p. 5), keeping people who already know the company which in turn reduces costs (introductionâ⬠¦) and enhances motivation. Employees have also the interest to bring the company forward because over 30% already are shareholders. Sustainable competitive advantage according to Lynch (2003) of Ryanair is: the low cost basis (key success factor), offering of the cheapest ticket prices (in order to target price sensitive customers) and the abilities of the management and the CEO (leadership) of Ryanair. In addition to that first mover experience (experience from competing against BA and Aer Lingus at the beginning) may also have benefited the company. 3 Ryanairââ¬â¢s dynamic capabilities Dynamic capabilities provide a constant flow of opportunities (Lynch, 2003), from which Ryanair could take advantage in order to sustain the competitive advantage: * Ryanair immediately responds to opportunities and threats in order to cut costs and sustain the low cost basis (e.g. abandonment of ice cubesâ⬠¦) or to increase profits (e.g. ancillary servicesâ⬠¦) * Constantly shaping the internet as the main communication device to its customer (marketing and sales, bookingâ⬠¦). * Ryanair wants to provide the lowest fares. Therefore the company must beà very flexible and always at least react (or outperform) competitors in terms of the price. * Ryanairââ¬â¢s aim is to enlarge. This means to add constantly more routes and boost of frequencies on rotes with high demand. As it can be seen, Ryanairââ¬â¢s dynamic capabilities are flexibility and the ability of rapid adoption to changing conditions. Hence the competitive advantage is not static (e.g. low cost basis). This is what Brown and Eisenhardt (1998) define as ââ¬Å"continual revolutionâ⬠(Lynch, 2003 [p. 130]). 4 Strength and weaknesses of Ryanair By referring to the above said, itââ¬â¢s possible to identify the following strength and weaknesses. Strength/Weakness * Efficient and low operating costs (e.g. airport charges, same type of aircraft, economics of scales, cost cutting where possibleâ⬠¦) * Immediate reaction of the management to use opportunities (e.g. when ice cube werenââ¬â¢t fee of charge anymore, Ryanair stopped ordering them) * Excellent career opportunities and effective employment handling (e.g. no union exists so far, good integration of employees in the company via the stock options program) * Because of their obtained size they have to some extend pricing power * The financial statement is sound (e.g. for sustaining the price war) * High load factor (about 85%, which is one of the best in the industry) * Strong performing CEO and management (e.g. several awards) * First mover experience (Ryanair and its management shaped the whole European airline industry) * Good safety record * Hedging policy (Ryanair remains unhedged although PESTEL analysis concluded an instable environment) * Ryanair added too much capacity in a short time frame (overcapacity may lead to deteriorating load factor and danger of high fixed costs) * Ryanair doesnââ¬â¢t consider people without internet (more passenger may be attracted if Ryanair wouldnââ¬â¢t merely use the internet) * The behaviour of the CEO towards government officials As it can be seen, Ryanair fulfils all key success factors. The cost leadership approach is certainly Ryanairââ¬â¢s major strength and provides competitive advantage. However there were some weaknesses identified: for now, the company should at least rethink its hedging policy. The classification of factors into strength and weaknesses can be misleading. For example, the enlargement of the fleet can lead to economics of scope. But at the same time, there is the risk of creating overcapacity (and thereby deteriorating performance indicators, e.g. load factor). Hence some issues may be both, a possible strength and weakness. The same is true for opportunities and threats. This is a limitation of the SWOT analyses.

Drug Policy And Efforts Of Control Substance Abuse
Drug policy and efforts to control substance abuse have resulted in human rights violations in many countries. 27 million people were problem drug users in 2013 (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 2013), representing a ââ¬Å"vulnerable and marginalised groupâ⬠(Petty, 2012). The need for human rights to be at the forefront of any debate, policy or legislation regarding the ââ¬Ëwar on drugsââ¬â¢ is heightened by human rights abuses resulting from such action ââ¬â namely ââ¬Å"torture and ill-treatment by police, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, and denial of essential medicines and basic health servicesâ⬠(Human Rights Watch, 2009). The term ââ¬Ëdrug userââ¬â¢ can be interpreted in the context of law, culture and science, making the enactment of effective, harm-preventative legislation difficult. However, evidence of a lack of acknowledgement of fundamental human rights in drug reform has lead to such rights violations, often stemming fro m the belief that drug addicts are incapable of ââ¬Å"self-governance and determinationâ⬠¦ extreme measurers are necessary to save them from themselvesâ⬠(Petty, 2012). This essay will discuss human rights theories and mechanisms in relation to drug reform and its associated violations of human rights. The right to life, liberty, and health and equality before the law, as addressed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), are perhaps the most fundamental rights that have been compromised by drug policy and reform. The Effects Of Video Games On Children - 1865 Words
The Effects of Video Games Normally when a child acts out, misbehaves, or shows violence people might try and link this bad behavior to something in the childââ¬â¢s life. Video games are often the target for such accusations. It makes sense that with all of the violent content television and video games have to offer with shows like Game of Thrones or games like Grand Theft Auto, that it is no wonder children show signs of violence, right? Then why does developmental psychologist Dr. Marilyn Price Mitchell disagree that video games are the sole cause of violence in children? Video games have many times been linked to violence in children; however, studies have shown that they may have more of a positive influence than one might think. Video games are not to be blamed for violent behavior in children because the potentially negative effect they have could be avoided by simply educating children about the bad content featured on certain games. Many times people argue that video games create or promote violent behavior in children. While this may be partially true, there are in fact children who can separate fantasy from reality and not dwell on the emotional effects of the game when it is over. I am someone who puts in anywhere from 12 to 30 hours a week during the school year, and even more over the summer, on video games and I have not exhibited any violent behavior to anyone. In this graduation course, different aspects of the electronics and telecommunication engineering are thought. After the completion of this graduation course I will get job opportunities in several recognized electronics and communication organizations. Answer 2 In case of private institution my college education will cost almost $100000 in 4 years. In case of state owned institution it will cost almost $80000. Answer 3 I will stick to my graduation completion plan. I will not take up any extra course of interest. This 4 years long course requires significant amount of concentration and dedication. I donââ¬â¢t want to distract myself from the original course. I want to give my best and full effort to this course which will be fruitful for me in future. Answer 4 Unfortunately, if I fail in this course or dropout then I will not be able to repay my educational loan because I will also not get any job from the campus placement, neither from any off-campus interview. So, it will not be possible for me to repay the loan by myself. In that case bank might pressurize me and my co borrower to repay the loan. Answer 5 Yes it is obliviously necessary for me to pass all the courses. According to the criterion of FASA, students should maintain minimum stipulated GPA to get the continuous financial aids. This regulation has increased the importance of each and every course during the graduation. If I fail in any one or more than one courses then my GPA will be below the threshold limit to get the financial aid. Answer 6 Current economic crisis will affect the financial aid in negative ways. Financial institution like banks will be directly affected by the slowing economy. Banks will face significant liquidity problems to lend the money. Banking organizations will not give the loans easily they will give loan after lots of back ground checking. Interest rates of loans repayment will be significantly high. Answer 7 There are significant changes have taken place. The Federal Government has increased its subsidized student loan interest rate by two times. The new interest rate will be 6.8%. Brownââ¬â¢s bill came into the picture to resurrect the situation by 15% of the total outstanding student debt. In most of the cases, there is no other way to avoid the repayment of student loan. According to the Federal law, student loan has no statute limitations. Banks can ask for student loan for indefinite period of time from the co borrower. Answer 9 The act of cosigning can affect the co-signers credit availability significantly. If the borrower could not able to repay the loan then the whole onuses lie with the cop borrower. If the co borrower fails to repay then it will dent co borrowerââ¬â¢s credit availability. In future, the co-borrower will face significant difficulty to get any loan or will not be able to cosign for any other loan. Answer 10 There are significant disadvantages for the student s with outstanding educational loan and no job prospect. If there are no job prospects for the students then they will not be able to repay the existing loans. If the existing loans are not repaid, then the students will not be able to apply for another loan for further education. Answer 11 According to the Federal law, student loan is not volatile it can haunt the loan defaulter at any point of time in future. Even it can be problematic for the students in terms of future employment scope because, now days, employers are checking the credit reports of their potential employees. Answer 12 There are no as such direct consequences for the college in case of student loan defaulter. But indirect consequences are certainly there. It may hamper the reputation of the collage. In future students who are considering for joining that collage, banks may not sanction the student loan for them. Answer 13 According to the research of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, student loan debt has reached as high as $1.2 trillion. In between that $1 trillion is from the debt of Federal loan only. It is the second highest form of the Federal debt right behind the mortgage debt. Overall Federal debt is $16.7 trillion and current student rate of default 12.31%. Loan default rate (Source: Stratford, 2012) The above picture is indicating increasing trends of student loan default in US. Answer 14 The default does affect the economic outlook significantly. It increases the fiscal deficit of the country. It contributes to the overall debts of the countryââ¬â¢s economy. Recently US economy on the recovery phase but this kind of high student loan default has stalled the economic growth (Khalfani, 2007). The amount of loan default increased abnormally and has reached up to $1 trillion. Answer 15 Financial consequences for the future generation will be severe. The next generation will come to this beautiful world with pressure of huge debts. The Federal law will not allow to foregone the student loan debt. In this case parents will not be able to save enough money for their future generations. Answer 16 Competitive advantages of the nation can be significantly hampered. It affects the nationââ¬â¢s economy directly in a negative way (Heller Callender, 2013, pp. 89-90). The rest of the world will consider USA as a debt ridden country. Different credit rating organizations will lower the ratings of the nation which will be an absolute competitive disadvantage for the country. Answer 17 Students have to repay their loans to the banks. The loan pay off comprises of principal and interest payments. Interests are calculated on the basis of principal amount. The particular rates on which interests are calculated are called interest rates. Answer 18 Amortization schedule is a table which calculates periodic blended loan payment. The schedule indicates the amount of principal and interest for an educational loan payment. It is a structured process of repaying debts over a stipulated time and it considers regular payment of the loan. Answer 19 The first student loan payment will start after the expiry of the allotted tenure and grace period. Every student is provided with certain grace periods after the completion of school, collages and drop out below half time enrollment for settling their financial situations. Answer 20 Yes, it is wise to start paying student loan during the school or college time. It reduces the burden of spending too much amount of money at a time (OConnell, 2004, pp. 112-113). Student should try to pay at least the interest of the loan on a regular basis during the school or college time. Answer 21 Consolidation of student loan is a contradictory matter. It can provide benefits in terms of lower monthly payments, simplifies the bill and minimizes the responsibility. On the other hand consolidation of debt will lead to significant head ache of paying too much of money in one time. References Heller, D. E. Callender, C., (2013). Sports Essay Free Essays
Kevin Walters Go Team! Sports have become a huge part of this countryââ¬â¢s culture, and the sports fans make up a good portion of the population. Every other conversation you hear, whether it be at the water cooler or in a bar, has something to do with some big play or blown call that happened the night before. The popularity of sports has grown magnificently in just the last 24 years that I have been a sports fan. We will write a custom essay sample on Sports Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now What used to be all the men yelling and cussing at the TV, has become almost as popular to women. Whether it is football, basketball, or baseball, these fans come in all different shapes and sizes. If you are a follower of a team, a bandwagon fan, a fair weather fan, or a die-hard fan, we are all part of a great family of sports fans that make for a good time and some awesome conversation. The followers, as I like to call them, are just your basic fan of a specific sports team. They are with that team and will stick by them through thick and thin, but they wouldnââ¬â¢t mind being able to not watch a game if it got in the way of previous plans. These fans may have a few shirts or maybe a hat or two of their favorite team but unless itââ¬â¢s game day, they donââ¬â¢t go out of their way to show that pride. A follower will usually not care to spend the money on tickets to actually go watch a game, but if they are given tickets or invited to go see a game with some friends, they will not hesitate to say yes. Being a follower is not a bad thing. Itââ¬â¢s a safe position as far as being a fan of a certain team, because if your team wins you can cheer and brag to all your friends, but when they lose you donââ¬â¢t have that ââ¬Å"heartbreakâ⬠that comes with the other types of fans. The bandwagon fan is one of the most hated categories of fans that you could possibly be. A bandwagon fan is the type of fan that likes to cheer for the team that is most likely to win. These fans are usually fairly knowledgeable in the sport they are cheering for and will usually do their homework on whichever team they are cheering for that week. Bandwagoners will do what they can to make sure they are able to watch every game, this way they can see who plays good and bad and decide who they want to cheer for. When it comes to clothes, a bandwagon fanââ¬â¢s closet will look like a rainbow of sorts of different sports teams. They have a jersey from 4 or 5 different teams that they like to switch between just to be ready in case one team is their favorite that week. Bandwagon fans enjoy going to watch a live game, and will cheer for whichever team is picked to win. Being a bandwagon is, like a follower, a very safe type of fan to be. Besides the fact that you will be hated by any true fans, you have the luxury of switching teams the next week if your team performs poorly. Fair weather fans are the types of fans that hurt a team the most of all. These fans absolutely love their team at the seasonââ¬â¢s start, but if the team begins to struggle and shows no hope of doing well that year, these fans will disappear like ghosts. If the team is doing good and satisfying their expectations, a fair weather fan will do whatever they need to do to be able to watch the games on TV so they can be there to cheer them on. These fans make themselves very noticeable towards the middle of the season. Fair weather fans will dress up in all the team colors and wave the team flag as if they were the truest fans ever but as soon as the team starts losing, the clothes get hung in the back of closet and the flags get taken town and put up in storage until the start of the next season. They will be the first ones in line to buy tickets to the opening home game, but a fair weather fan will never be a season ticket holder. A fair weather fan is a safe fan to be, but it is also a sad fan. These fans are the reason that games get blacked out on TV because the team canââ¬â¢t sell tickets to the game. The last category of fans is the die-hard fan. These fans are absolutely crazy about their team, win or lose. They will fight with you and argue with you until the end and tell you why their team is the best, no matter what the record might say. Die-hard fans will request days off work and make plans around their team if thatââ¬â¢s what it takes to be able to watch the big game. This fan will wear at least one article of clothing of his favorite team at least 6 days out of the week, even if they get blown out the week prior. These kinds of fans will be your season ticket holders. They will make every game and be one of the first ones to the stadium. Die-hard fans are the best sports fans in my opinion. They are so passionate and so dedicated to their team, that it can easily be the most dangerous type of fan to be. If a die-hard fanââ¬â¢s favorite team loses, it can ruin his whole week, but as soon as they play again, he is right there cheering them on as if it was the Super Bowl or the World Series. Fans are what keep sports alive all around the world. If these sports or teams didnââ¬â¢t have these kinds of fans, they wouldnââ¬â¢t be able to exist. Sports have become a lifestyle in this country and the fans have become a strong community. I couldnââ¬â¢t imagine what America or the world would be like without sports. Being the die-hard fan that I am of my favorite sports team, I just donââ¬â¢t know how I would function with my Florida Gators. So whether you are a follower, fair weather, bandwagon, or die-hard fan, keep cheering and keep passing down the tradition of being a sports fan in America. How to cite Sports Essay, Essay examples

Tom Buchanan Example of Arrogance Essay Example For Students
Tom Buchanan Example of Arrogance Essay The 1920s, ten years of thriving life in America. People living the good life and people living in the slumps. East Egg, the prominent community of the old rich. People who have known money all their lives. West Egg, the up and coming community of the newly rich. Manhattan, the city of life. The Valley of Ashes, separating the Eggs from the city. Symbolizing the poor. An aftermath of the industrial revolution. Four regions making up Long Island. In between them, the Long Island Sound. A stretch of water cutting through the land, separating the East from the West. All peoples living inside having the same American dream. All wanting to become successful and well loved, but most of all having money was a top priority for all of them. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby, the character Tom Buchanan believes that just because he has lots of money, it enables him to look down on others as inferior. Tom Buchanan is married to Daisy Baker, cousin of Nick Carraway. In his first meeting w ith Nick, who he knew from collage at New Haven, Nick sees Toms arrogance. To Nick, it seems that Tom uses his money mostly as an excuse to make himself seem higher than other people around him. Even to Nick. He applies this opinion of himself on many occasions, maybe not directly, but non the less his subliminal point gets across. Like saying just because Im stronger and more of a man than you are(pg.11) implies that his arrogance is there. To Tom, his money justifies his actions towards others no matter what they are. He believes that his money lets him justify his racial slurs. His biggest prejudice is that the white race is superior and this is evident when he tells Nick of the book, The Rise of the Coloured Empires. Toms idea is that if they dont look out, the white race will be utterly submerged(pg. 17). The reason he can say these things, he feels, is that because he is so rich nobody can touch him. Even with people closest to him. Such as Daisy, his wife. Even with her, he f eels that he can get away with anything and insult her with his arrogance. Take his relationship with Myrtle. Right under Daisys nose he has the audacity cheat on her. He even takes Nick to go see Myrtle. Were getting off! he insisted I want you to meet my girl.(pg. 28) He said this to Nick. Nick, Daisys second cousin once removed. He also finds the time to disrespect Myrtle when she mentions Daisy. By yelling at her and even beating her. He make a short deft movement and broke her nose with his open hand.(pg. 41) By doing this, he shows that looks down on even Myrtle and Daisy. When things are the worst for him, Tom Buchanan runs to his money and hides behind it. Same with Daisy. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever kept them together.(pg. 184) It was their money that kept them together. They used their money as shields. Used it also as an excuse and a reason to look down on others.
